When someone goes to New York City, some sort of entertainment can easily be found. It's one of the most famous cities in the world, and the entertainment industry is one of the things that makes it so. To an outsider, it might assume that the entire city is the way it's portrayed in movies, but an insider will notice that everything grand that people see in the city in modern media is in two places, Manhattan or Brooklyn. My focus is the fact that many of these places take place in only two boroughs, when NYC has three others that are seemingly ignored! This project aims to show that it’s still worth creating recreational centers and venues in the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island, by giving examples of existing ones and their success in these boroughs, as well as drawing parallels between the amount of people that work in these boroughs, and the average pay they make.
One of the obvious reasons for the success of recreational events and venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn stems from the fact that the two boroughs are densely populated, and the more traffic in a location, the more business it gets, but is that really true? Take a look at the revenue from the Bronx Zoo making over $80 million in 2020 and 2021. Take a look at the Queens botanical garden, making over $5 million. These are activities people can do and they make money for the people running them, and for NYC. This project mainly aims to get a sample of entertainment venues from concert venues to bingo game operators, compare the amount of places per borough, and make an argument as to why we should add more of these venues around boroughs that have far less venues in them.
